The Banner

One way the WRHS communicates with its members is through its publications. The Banner, which is named after the employee newsletter of the early 1960s, is a color publication containing feature-length articles, images and artwork. It is published once per calendar year. While the articles vary greatly in subject matter, they all pertain to the Wabash Railroad or its affiliates. Past article subjects have included:

  • Passenger & freight operations
  • Commodities hauled by the Wabash (coal, LCL, etc.)
  • Interlocking towers
  • Locomotive diagrams
  • Cabooses
  • Depots and other Wabash structures
  • Freight and Passenger Cars
  • Wabash Steam and Diesel Power
  • Division & locale-specific articles
Our latest issue is Banner No. 81 for the publication year 2021. It is 48 pages in length, with a full-color centerspread and covers.

Please check our Publications Index for a description of what each issue contains, what back issues are available for purchase and a description of each back issue's content.

Watermark is NOT printed on the actual Banner cover

The Wabash Modeler

Our second publication is called The Wabash Modeler. The focus of this publication is on prototype modeling of Wabash-related subjects in any scale. While modeling projects and photos are prominent, our objective is to share information about Wabash prototype equipment, infrastructure and operations tailored toward the needs of the modeler. The magazine also includes reviews of modeling products, books and other publications. The Wabash Modeler is published once per calendar year.

There are no Wabash Modelers published for the years 2012-2014 and 2016-2017, inclusive. Our latest issue (No. 9) was published and mailed to the 2021 membership in early June 2021. A list of the subjects covered in TWM No. 9 can be found in our Publications Index.

Watermark is NOT printed on the actual TWM cover

At times, there is more information (usually in the form of graphics; primarily paint schematics and such) available to us that cannot be printed legibly within our magazines. We then publish what's called a "Data File", which is inserted into The Banner or The Wabash Modeler, whichever is more appropriate for the subject. We are currently up to No. 11 in our Data File series. Below is an example of the face page of the Data File, which was folded and placed within our Hudson issue (The Banner
No. 79); the reverse side of each Data File also includes subject-specific graphical material, as well.

Watermark is NOT printed on the actual Data File

We print extra copies of our Data Files, so they can be purchased separately from the magazine in which they're included, if you desire.

WRHS Calendar

Rounding out a membership years' publications is a twelve-month Wabash Railroad pictorial calendar for the following year. It is typically published and mailed sometime within the last quarter of a membership year. The calendar contains both color and B&W photographs of various subjects related to the Wabash and/or its affiliate roads.

A list of what subjects are covered in our past calendars can be found in our Publications Index. A list of what subjects will be covered in the upcoming calendar will be added to the upcoming calendar entry when the photo subjects are known.
