The WRHS does not have any ex-Wabash Railroad personnel records in it's archives...so please do not contact us asking for them as those records are most likely lost. The Norfolk Southern RR (the present day parent to the Wabash RR) has indicated that they do not have employment records for its some 300 predecessor lines.
They recommended the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board, which you can contact at 844 North Rush, Chicago, IL 60611 (312) 751-4500. They also have a Web page at The U.S. Railroad Retirement Board. Be advised that their records only go back to about 1935.
Another source is the United Transportation Union. Their telephone number in Cleveland, OH is (216) 228-0411. Their records go back to about 1900. The employee would have had to have been a union member, but since the UTU now combines most of the old unions, it's just only one source.
